NATURAL SWEETNERS
Stevia gets its sweetness from Rebiana (aka Reb-A) — an extract from the Stevia plant. Stevia has zero calories. It must be noted however that it is not regulated by the FDA.
Sugar alcohols, the most common ones known are xylitrol and sorbitol. This category of sweeteners does contain calories about the same as pure cane sugar and are not well absorbed from the digestive tract. They have been known to cause gas, bloating and diarrhea.
If taste is your objective, than the alcohol sugars are best followed by Splenda. You will find that which ever you choose if you stick to the same one your taste buds will adapt
Note: some people wonder about using honey as a sweetener. It has to be used with caution. If you do choose honey you need to adjust your daily intake of carbohydrates by 40-50g.
